About the role
Syngenta is seeking a Senior Agronomist to join our East Africa team based in Nairobi, Kenya. You will provide expert agronomic advice, support farmer training programmes, and drive adoption of sustainable crop protection and seed solutions across the region. This is a field-facing role for someone who thrives working directly with farmers, distributors, and local partners to deliver real agronomic impact.
Key responsibilities
- Lead agronomic trials and field demonstrations across Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania
- Provide technical support and training to a network of distributors and retail agronomists
- Develop and deliver farmer field school programmes in partnership with extension services
- Collaborate with the regulatory and stewardship team on responsible use of crop protection products
- Monitor and report on crop performance, pest and disease pressure, and seasonal weather impacts
- Contribute to regional agronomic recommendations and technical content for growers
What you'll bring
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Agriculture or a related field
- 5+ years of field agronomy experience in East Africa
- Strong knowledge of cereal, vegetable and/or horticultural crop production systems
- Proven ability to design, manage and interpret agronomic field trials
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills in English and Swahili
- Willingness to travel extensively across East Africa (up to 50% of the time)
- Experience working with smallholder farmers is highly desirable
